Innovative Staircase Lighting
Wooden stairs provide a perfect stage for indirect lighting, as you can really bring out the shape and geometry of the staircase by accentuating it with light. Safety is also improved. OSTERMANN has added new products to their range to help furniture makers implement their lighting concepts.
As with all areas of interior design, illumination is increasingly becoming a focal point in stair construction. Only the implementation so far has been difficult for craftsmen. Which lighting should you use? How to install unobtrusively? Where to put the supply cables? And how can you best power them?
Illumination of Individual Steps
The new Versa Stair LED strip was specifically developed for use on stairs. This is the product of choice if you want to illuminate individual steps. A wide selection of accessories allows you to achieve both open and closed stairs. The open LED strip is available in the light colours extra warm white, warm white and neutral white and is installed together with a ChannelLine profile. The aluminium profile is either placed on top (ChannelLine D or D2) or inserted flush into the step (ChannelLine B and C). Plug-in connections allow you to pre-assemble the individual parts in the workshop and connect them on site. Meanwhile, the slim control cable disappears invisibly into the stair stringer. Practical: a single ballast can control up to 15 steps with a width of up to 1.20 metres.
Tip: To attach the flush-mounted ChannelLine profiles, the OSTERMANN experts recommend the REDOCOL MS-Polymer assembly adhesive.
Lighting for Stair Stringers or Handrails
To illuminate stair stringers or handrails, the OSTERMANN experts recommend the Versa SuperPlus or Versa SuperPlus Mini LED strips. These combine an LED strip and a flexible profile in one solution. If there is enough space between wall and stair stringer or handrail, use the slightly wider "Versa SuperPlus". If there is little space or if the luminaire needs to be inserted flush into the handrail or the stringboard, use "Versa SuperPlus Mini". Both versions can be individually shortened and are available in warm white or neutral white light and in different lengths.
Tip: Warm white light is particularly suitable for white walls while neutral white light sets nice accents on textured surfaces such as wood or stone.
Alternative: Spots Along the Stairs
If not every step is to be illuminated, you can also achieve great light effects with recessed spots along the stairs. These can be inserted at regular intervals by means of a plug-in connection on the wall side, just above the steps. Depending on the desired lighting effect, there are three models to choose from: QuadroPoint Square offers a classic spotlight with a modern, square cover made of brushed stainless steel. With PanelLite Square the light appears indirectly, as a wreath around the square cover in stainless steel look. The Side Spot luminaire light beam is projected glare-free diagonally downwards onto the step.
Smart or Classic Control - Just as Required
The dimmable lighting system can be controlled either classically - with a switch or remote control -, via a smart home application or via motion sensors. OSTERMANN's experts readily offer advice and support for the planning and the selection of products.
