Our Tips for Mitre Connections
No matter whether box, carcass, frame or angle... Mitred joints stand for particularly sophisticated corner connections. To achieve these connections, you have two options: a classic bond with glue or detachable Clamex P-14 connectors from Lamello. We provide useful tips for each method.
Glue or Lamello? Some simple questions will suffice make your decision: Is there a CNC machine available? Do you want to produce your workpiece as a small series? Should the mitre connection be detachable? If at least one of these questions is answered with "yes", you should go with Clamex P-14 by Lamello.
Detachable Connection of Large Workpieces
For large workpieces that are difficult to transport when put together, the OSTERMANN experts recommend the detachable Clamex P-14 connector from Lamello. The flexible connector is ideal for mitre joints and surface, corner or dividing panel connections. Precise milling and positioning can be done with a CNC or alternatively with the Lamello P-System biscuit joiner Zeta P2. Once the millings are done, you can just insert the connectors into the workpiece. Even with inserted connectors, the furniture elements can be transported easily and without any connectors scratching the surface. On site, you can simply put together all of the furniture parts.

Automated Order
For processors using CAD software, CAD data for the Lamello range is available and can be downloaded in the our online shop. If these data are already integrated into your CAD software, your CNC system can automatically carry out the necessary milling for the connector. In case you work with a compatible ERP system, data is transferred directly from your CAD planning and given out in detailed item lists. If your software is connected to the our online shop via an interface, your order will even be placed automatically from the software. Alternatively, you can of course manufacture durable high quality mitre connections with the methods of classic craftsmanship.
Manual Mitre Gluing with the Folding Technique
For manual gluing of mitres, align the four elements to bond flush, so that the pointy sides of the mitres meet or even overlap slightly. In a next step, join the elements with one or several strips of transparent "REDOCOL PVC adhesive tape, extra strong", depending on the width of the workpiece. Then, you turn the elements to be bonded and apply white glue, e.g. "REDOCOL Kombicoll Super-N", to the narrow part of the triangular gap. Fixed by the tape, the individual sides can now be folded together, connected and tensioned without shifting out of place. The transparent tape allows you to see at a glance whether the joint is neatly closed everywhere. After the glue has set, the tape can be removed quickly and without leaving residues.
